Frequently Asked Questions | Elora Mind and Body in Templeton, CA

We understand that you may have questions about our services and policies. We’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions to help provide clarity and guidance on everything from appointments to payments and more.

Do you accept insurance?

Talia is currently out of network with all insurance carriers. She will provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance and they may cover a portion of your visit depending on your coverage. If you wish to have a super bill completed, please let us know at time of service.

Quality of care is our main focus which is why we keep our patient census low and do not accept insurance. This allows Talia to spend more time with her patients and truly understand the individuals she treats.

If you would like to schedule an appointment with Kassandra for therapy, she does accept most insurances and an appointment may be made with her here.

Why don't you accept insurance?

This was a difficult decision for me. The primary focus is on providing you with the best possible care and helping you achieve your mental health goals. While insurance can provide some financial assistance, it can also come with limitations that can compromise the quality and effectiveness of your treatment.

Firstly, insurance companies often require extensive documentation, which can distract from the time and energy that we would rather spend on providing personalized care to our patients. Additionally, insurance providers often limit the number of appointments and types of treatment options covered, which can result in a suboptimal treatment plan that may not adequately address your individual needs. By operating as a cash-only practice, we can offer a more personalized and flexible approach to your care. Without the restrictions imposed by insurance providers, we are able to devote more time to each patient and provide a wider range of treatment options tailored specifically to your needs.

Furthermore, being a cash-only practice allows us to maintain a higher level of confidentiality and privacy. When you use insurance, your mental health information is often shared with your insurance company, and this information can potentially be accessed by other entities, life insurance being one example. As a cash-only practice, your information is only shared on a need-to-know basis, ensuring your privacy and confidentiality are protected.

We understand that the cost of treatment may be a concern, but we believe that investing in your mental health is one of the most valuable things you can do for yourself, and we are dedicated to helping you achieve your goals in the most effective and personalized way possible.

How do I pay for your services?

We currently do not accept insurance. This format allows me to have longer visit times and form a more intimate connection with my patients.

We accept Visa, Mastercard, AMEX, Cash, Check or Debit Cards. You may also use a health savings account. Full payment is due at time of service.

Patients are required to enroll in auto-pay for billing on day of service.

At the end of your visit, you may be provided with a “super bill” that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement that will vary and is dependent upon your insurance carrier. If you wish to do this, please let us know at the end of your visit.

If you are more than 60 days past due on a current balance, we will be unable to schedule future appointments.

What is your cancellation policy?

Changes to the appointment (cancellations or rescheduling) requires a 48-hour advanced notice (for psychiatry services) and 24-hour advanced notice for all other services, otherwise clients will be charged the full rate of the appointment.

To avoid a charge, Monday appointments must be cancelled or rescheduled at least 48 hours prior on the Thursday preceding.

What if i miss or are late to an appointment?

Missed psychiatry appointments will be billed at the usual rate with your credit card on file. All other services will be $50.

If you are more than 15 minutes late to an initial appointment or 10 minutes late to a follow-up appointment, it will be considered a missed appointment.

Do I have to be in California?

Per state law, please ensure you are located in the state of California at the time of your virtual appointment. If you are not, we will not be able to see you and you will be responsible for the full visit fee.

Do you prescribe controlled substances?

I have a conservative prescribing style. I prescribe controlled substances on a case-by-case basis. If controlled substances were to be prescribed, a separate contract would need to be signed/agreed upon.

I will take clients who desire to taper off of controlled substances.

Do you provide therapy?

My practice primarily focuses on medication management, with very brief psychotherapy within sessions.

Brief psychotherapy modalities can include motivational interviewing, supportive therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I provide psychoeducation and use active listening.

I will gladly provide referrals for outside therapists.

Can I contact you between appointments?

You may call, utilize the patient portal, or download the Spruce application and communicate with us between appointments for any questions regarding scheduling, payments, and refills. Communications regarding medical or psychiatric needs may require a separate appointment. Same-day urgent appointments are possible depending on my availability.

Please note that enough medications are prescribed to last until the next appointment. If an appointment is missed, a one-time courtesy refill is given until the new appointment time. No controlled medication will be refilled early.

Portal messages and calls will be returned within 1-3 business days.

What If I am having an emergency?

If you are having a medical or psychiatric emergency, such as having thoughts of harming yourself or others, or suicide, please call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency room.
