Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that causes significant changes in mood, energy levels, and behavior. It is a complex disorder that affects people differently, but some common symptoms of bipolar disorder include:

  • Manic episodes: feeling overly happy, elated, or euphoric, experiencing racing thoughts, talking rapidly, high levels of energy, impulsive behavior, and engaging in risky activities.

  • Depressive episodes: feeling sad, empty or hopeless, loss of interest in activities, difficulty sleeping, feeling tired or lethargic, difficulty concentrating, feeling worthless or guilty, and suicidal thoughts.

  • Mixed episodes: experiencing symptoms of both mania and depression at the same time, such as feeling agitated, irritable, and sad.

  • Hypomania: mild manic episode characterized by increased creativity, productivity, and energy

It’s important to note that these symptoms can vary in severity and duration, and not all people with bipolar disorder will experience all of them. If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, it’s important to seek professional help from a mental health provider.

Benefits of receiving a diagnosis

An accurate diagnosis is the first step towards managing the condition. It helps in understanding the challenges you’re facing and why you’re facing them. This can provide a sense of relief and eliminate the feeling of self-blame or confusion about certain behaviors.
